Summary
Digital Media Partner supported an established UK vehicle leasing business with a long-term SEO strategy designed to build national search visibility, increase qualified organic traffic and compete in one of the most competitive search markets in the UK automotive sector.
The campaign combined technical SEO, content optimisation, location-led landing pages, internal linking, topical authority and, once the website foundations were strong enough, a strategic shift into outreach and backlink generation.
The result was a search footprint that went beyond basic ranking growth. Across a 12-month period, the campaign generated more than 100,000 organic clicks, over 17 million search impressions and a 44% year-on-year increase in first-page keyword rankings. Organic lead generation also exceeded the agreed weekly target, averaging 140% of target over the measured period.
This was not a campaign built around isolated keyword wins. It was a full automotive SEO strategy built around commercial intent, local intent, informational authority, search behaviour, technical structure and measurable organic lead generation.
The Challenge
Automotive leasing is a highly competitive market. The search landscape is dominated by larger national players with bigger budgets, larger teams, stronger brand recognition and more established backlink profiles. Competing purely on spend was not the right strategy.
The opportunity was to build a smarter organic search footprint. The website needed to appear for high-intent national commercial searches, while also capturing localised search behaviour from users looking for leasing options near them, or in their own town, city or region.
The campaign therefore needed to achieve three things at once: build national commercial visibility, create a defensible local search footprint across the UK, and connect SEO activity to measurable enquiry performance over time. The primary objective was to grow qualified organic enquiries against an agreed weekly lead generation benchmark.
The SEO Strategy
1. Build the SEO foundations first
The first phase focused on the fundamentals: technical SEO, website structure, metadata, indexation, internal linking, content optimisation and the creation of pages that matched how users actually search. Without strong foundations, link acquisition and authority building would have had far less commercial impact.
2. Build local leasing visibility nationwide
DMP built and optimised a location-led search structure designed around high-intent local leasing behaviour. This gave the website a way to compete nationally by winning locally, town by town, city by city and region by region.
3. Strengthen topical authority with useful content
Alongside commercial landing pages, the campaign expanded informational content around the wider vehicle leasing journey. This included practical guides, comparison-led content, eligibility questions, ownership considerations, tax-related searches and leasing advice. These pages helped attract research-stage users while supporting the authority of commercial pages through internal linking and topical relevance.
4. Shift into outreach and authority building once the site was ready
Once the website foundations were strong enough, DMP recommended a proactive shift in strategy. The next priority was to build authority through outreach, backlink acquisition and digital PR-style visibility, helping the site compete more effectively for valuable national commercial keywords.
5. Connect SEO visibility to measurable enquiries
Lead tracking was used to move the conversation beyond rankings alone. The campaign measured organic enquiry performance, call activity, form enquiries and emerging AI-led discovery signals, helping show how search visibility was converting into real commercial opportunity.
